“Happy birthday to me!”
Not A Couch Day
I got my ass out the door this morning to do a hill run at tempo pace. Felt amazing. It is my birthday today, and I am taking inventory about the amazing people in my life, feeling overwhelming gratitude to know and learn from all the people in my life.
Forty-four years ago today, at 5:02 a.m., I was born. It is amazing how time races by us from one major life event to the next. It reminds me of the importance of taking time to enjoy the moment and the amazing people we pass on our journey. We grow, change, evolve, and recreate ourselves on the path, provided we are willing to adjust and pay attention to the feedback, both implicit and explicit along the way.
Now At Middle Age
Today on my 44th birthday, I acknowledge that I am who I am today because of the amazing people in my life. I realize that there are many gifts in life, one is the ability to run. I am reminded by veterans of the sport to, “Run while you can, because you will not always be able to.” That does not seem true, but deep down I know it is.
Engage With Your Existence
One thing stands true: Stay engaged. Life does not happen from the comfort of a couch or a binge session on Netflix. A healthy level of discomfort is where growth takes place. Relaxation is a blessing preparing us for the next adventure. More importantly, I remind myself that we are who we are partly because of the effort we put forth, and mostly due to the amazing people in our life, supporting us, walking with us along the way.
